Why Christian? Faith in Anxious Times and Giving Forward

ree

This year’s Women’s Refresh Retreat, Why Christian? Faith in Anxious Times, centered on a deeply needed question: how do we care for ourselves so that we can show up to build communities rooted in God’s love?

Throughout the weekend, participants practiced faith-filled rhythms: saying a Holy No, listening with presence, cultivating a spirit of wonder, and working together to form relationships that heal rather than harm. All this happened surrounded by the beauty of creation, where the stillness of the lake and the whisper of the pines reminded us of God’s steady grace.

In the midst of prayer, laughter, and creativity, the women served together to create anti-anxiety kits for next summer’s campers. Each kit includes fidget tools and gentle reminders that every camper is loved by their Camp Onomia community and by God.

We know that coming to camp can feel overwhelming for some children and youth, especially for first-timers. At the retreat, we named the truth that it takes courage—for adults and kids alike—to risk connection. Camp isn’t something youth attend in spite of their mental health needs, but because of them. Camp is a place where exploration, play, and wonder are holy practices of healing.

These care kits are just one expression of how the Camp Onomia community is showing up for the next generation. Our staff are preparing in new ways to welcome all campers and walk alongside them, so that each one experiences camp as a life-changing encounter with God’s love.

That means new and expanded programs for 2026, including:

  • Camp Sprint, a half-week experience for grades 3–12 perfect for trying camp for the first time.

  • Expanded age ranges for Beginners Camp and Grandparent Camp, because we know how powerful it is to experience faith alongside a trusted adult.

  • And new partnerships and grants to build campers’ confidence, character, and capacity to support one another.

This is kingdom-building work, and you are part of it.

Your gifts and prayers make it possible for every camper to feel safe, seen, and loved just as they are. When you give forward to Camp Onomia, you’re helping create sacred spaces where faith, mental wellness, and belonging grow side by side.

👉 Join us in Giving Forward. Be in conversation with us. Share your ideas. Support the work. Together, we can ensure that every camper and every adult has a place to grow in God’s grace.
