Accommodations
Towering pines and plenty of wildlife make up the grounds at Camp Onomia. If you are seeking a peaceful location set apart from noise and distraction, it is here on our park-like setting on Shakopee Lake. We are surrounded by the Rum River State Forest and Mille Lacs - Kathio State Park adding multiple layers of God's creation to block out the stresses of every day life. Here you are able to escape and enjoy the beauty in the simple things. Other area attractions within a few miles of Onomia include the interpretive Center at Kathio, a Native American museum and trading post, the Mille Lacs Casino, several golf courses, and the ever popular Milaca Unclaimed Freight.
LODGING
Camp Onomia has accommodations to serve groups of 6-200 depending upon the season. In most instances we will find a way to meet your needs and expectations. Here you will find seasonal facilities for youth and families, year round accommodations for conferences, events and everything in between. For youth events, we expect a student to adult supervisor ratio of 7 to 1.
HOUSING
Our Retreat Center can accommodate up to 120 people, depending upon lodging needs in hotel style rooms with private bathrooms. This building is open for retreat and conference use year round. Seasonal buildings can host an additional 80 people in newly remodeled lodges which contain 3-5 individual cabin units with common bathrooms and centralized showering areas. We are happy to work with you on room assignments as we get closer to your booking date, but we encourage you to set up your own rooming lists. Please use the room layout located on the facilities page to assign housing. Minimum double occupancy is expected. Extra fees are incurred for single occupancy. Linen service is not provided but is available for an additional fee.
FOOD SERVICE
We make sure to provide delicious meals to all groups that come to visit. We will do our best to make all meal times flexible to match with your event schedule and to accommodate your dietary restrictions and allergies. At this time we do not allow groups to prepare their own meals in our commercial kitchen, however we do allow for groups to bring snacks if they would like. Some exceptions may apply.
Typical weekend meal packages often include:
BREAKFAST- Pancakes and sausage, scrambled egg and bacon, baked egg dish, or oatmeal and toppings bar
LUNCH- Soup and sandwich or soup and salad, Tacos and spanish rice, hamburgers or pulled pork sandwiches and beans
SUPPERS- Spaghetti or Pasta bar, baked chicken or french onion chicken and potato, pizza, chicken fingers and fries.
Of course this list is only the beginning. For larger groups we are able to work with you on special requests, some of which may require an additional fee. We taylor meals differently for kids groups and adult groups. Many lunches and suppers will also include a salad bar with options.
All meals include beverage. The coffee is always on as well!
PROGRAM ASSISTANCE
Camp Onomia offers year round staff that are ready to help assist you in many aspects your event. We can help by leading worship, campfire worships, Bible studies, team building, and group games. With some advance planning, we can add some spice to your youth or adult retreat! Of course, we will always have a friendly staff person on hand during your retreat as host. We are here for you.
FEE STRUCTURE
A typical weekend is quite affordable at Onomia! We offer significant discounts for stays lasting longer than one night. We have separate pricing rates for adults and youth. There are different rates as well between our Retreat Center and seasonal lodging. Let us know your needs and we can set you up with our best rate.
We also offer discounts for groups from our member congregations as thanks for their yearly support of Onomia. Let us work up a special package just for you for weddings and events that are longer than two days. Call us! 320-532-3767.
RECREATIONAL
Our main site includes approximately 1500 feet of lakeshore on the southwest portion of Lake Shakopee. We are blessed with absolutely fantastic sunsets which have become a trademark of peaceful evenings here at camp. We also have a rustic semi-wilderness camp site located on the shores of Warren Lake. Camp Onomia owns approximately 100 acres forest and land for guests to enjoy. As a convenience to our guests most buildings have paved surfaces connecting to each other to ensure safe walking for people of all ages.
RECREATION
Our sports and activity areas include a large playing field, volleyball court, full basketball court, shuffleboard, gaga pit, nine squar ein the air, kids playground, nine hole frisbee golf course, low ropes challenge course and waterfront providing complementary watercraft such as canoes and row boats. In the winter kickball and broomball on the frozen lake are good energy expenders and there is great sliding, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing at Kathio State Park just a few miles down the road from us. Need a challenge, take the rustic trail at camp out to the Cathedral of the Pines on the south shore of the lake!
CAMPGROUND AND WATERFRONT
In addition to our Retreat Center and summer Lodges, we have several camp sites available for tenting or smaller RV's. Four campsites are available most weekends and during some weeks of the summer months. Each site includes a firepit, picnic table with common bathroom facilities available There are limited electrical and water hookups for RV guests.
HIKING, FISHING AND MORE...
With some of the best fishing in the state in surrounding lakes and some of the best hiking trails over at Kathio State Park our guests find lots of things to keep them entertained. The public access to Lake Shakopee is just down the road if you bring your own boat. Seasonally, all row boats, paddle boards, and canoes are free to use and life jackets are required.
