APPROXIMATE TRAVEL TIMES:
You can plan on these approximate travel times to our retreat facility. Note that traffic out of the Metro area is highly dependent upon time of day and traffic. There are often significant delays in travel north on HWY 169 on Friday evenings and south on Sunday afternoons.
Elk River : 1 hour
Downtown Minneapolis- 1 hour 30 minutes
Downtown St Paul- 1 hour 45 minutes
St Cloud- 1 hour
Brainerd- 45 minutes
Duluth- 1 hour 45 minutes
FROM THE WEST
Take County 27 from Little Falls or Pierz. Travel east to County 26 (Shakopee Lake Road.) Look for the Kathio State Park signage. Turn left on Shakopee Lake Road, and the camp will be on your right. Enter camp, proceed to the main parking area. The camp office is located in the Retreat Center.
FROM THE EAST
Travel to HWY 169 at Onamia. Once you get to Onamia, take County 27 West through Onamia to County 26 (Shakopee Lake Road) about 3 miles. Turn right on Shakopee Lake Road and the camp will be on your right in a few miles. We are surrounded by Kathio State Park, so you will also see signs for Kathio as help. Enter camp, proceed to the main parking area. The camp office is located in the Retreat Center.
FROM THE SOUTH (TWIN CITIES)
Take HWY 169 north. If you are coming out of the Twin Cities, take either HWY 10 to Elk River or I94 west to HWY 101 at Rogers and go north to Elk River and HWY 169 North. Onomia is about an hour from Elk River. Once you get to Onamia, take County 27 West through Onamia to County 26 (Shakopee Lake Road) about 3 miles. Turn right on Shakopee Lake Road and the camp will be on your right in a few miles. We are surrounded by Kathio State Park, so you will also see signs for Kathio as help. Enter camp, proceed to the main parking area. The camp office is located in the Retreat Center.
FROM THE NORTH
Take HWY 169 south. Before you get to Onamia, you will come across County 26 (Shakopee Lake Road) and signage for Kathio State Park. This is about 6 miles north of Onamia. Turn right on Shakopee Lake Road, drive 4 miles past the park entrance to Camp Onomia which will be on your left. Enter camp, proceed to the main parking area. The camp office is located in the Retreat Center.
