Summer Counselor
This position will provide leadership, care, and support to campers each program session, in order to encourage a positive Christian experience in an organized camp setting.
Responsibilities: Program services
-
Encourage full participation in camp events by each of the campers under your supervision
-
Provide small group leadership during Bible Study, cabin devotions, and cabin events, ensuring the safety of campers participating at all times

Inspire a welcoming, Christ-centered community where all people are loved, accepted, and celebrated
Responsibilities: Health and Safety

ALWAYS provide a safe environment for campers and staff by following camp guidelines and eliminating unsafe behavior

Make your supervisors aware of any unsafe conditions
Responsibilities: Involvement in the Camp Community

Be a positive role model for your cabin group and all other campers

Participate in all staff training events
-
Attend all staff meetings (Sunday at Noon and daily meetings as scheduled)

Assist in camp clean up at the end of each camping week

Take care of your personal needs, i.e., get adequate sleep, eat proper foods, notify the Program Director when ill or injured, encourage good physical and emotional habits

Respect the needs for personal privacy within the staff community while sharing fully in group events
Qualifications:
-
Faith in Jesus: Be willing to share your life with Christ with others. You don’t need to be a Biblical scholar, have all the answers, or conform to a certain expression of faith to be at Camp Onomia. A wish to grow, share with honesty, and be in intentional Christian community is desired.

Openness to Christian faith: Camp Onomia is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) and follows the teachings of the ELCA, but we do not require staff members to be members of ELCA. Our campers come from a variety of denominations, faith traditions, different levels of experience engaging in faith, and experience in churches. Because of that, we are excited to welcome staff from other denominations, faith experiences, Biblical knowledge. We need staff who are able to relate to our campers, and walk with them as they explore their faith at Camp Onomia!

Passion for people: A desire for serving people of all ages, with emphasis on children and youth

Open-minded: Camp is a job like no other. Training to prepare you is provided, but a willingness to try new things, new experiences, and adventures is desired

Education: High school diploma required. Highly desired that onsite staff are 18 years of age by the end of the summer.
Compensation
-
Starting Counselors will earn $400/week
-
Those who are returning to Camp Onomia after a season of employment will earn an additional $10/week for each returning summer
-
First Aid/AED certification
-
Room and board
-
Ability to receive a lifeguard certification, and earn additional funds lifeguarding on the weekend.
Support Staff Roles
Onomia employs hourly team members in kitchen, maintenance, and groundskeeping roles. These positions offer a meaningful, community-centered experience while providing the scheduling flexibility many staff need. They are a great fit for high school students, young adults, and community members.
