Rest, Reflection, and Connection: Bible & Brew Weekend at Camp Onomia

This year’s Bible & Brew Weekend at Camp Onomia was exactly what guests were hoping for: community, fun, and full of moments that linger long after the weekend ends. One participant captured it best, saying, “The entire weekend was restful and stress-free.”

From the very start, the weekend was framed by meaningful conversation and shared reflection. Bishop Amy of the NE MN Synod led a Bible Study on “Taste and See” from the Psalms, exploring God’s goodness and the ways we are invited to share it with others. Guests shared stories of faith and life, reflecting on where God has been at work in their journeys. Those conversations, warm and authentic, set the tone for the weekend, reminding everyone that spiritual connection is often found in the simplest of shared moments.

New this year, Program Director Sari brought a Coffee Tasting to the mix. Guests learned to read coffee labels and then experimented with their new skills. Reactions ranged from delight to surprise: one guest happily shared, “This is how I want to start every morning,” while another described the same brew as “earthy… and not in a good way!” It was a playful, hands-on way to connect over something as everyday—and as extraordinary—as a cup of coffee.

Beyond Bible study and coffee tasting, guests enjoyed devotions, trivia, and plenty of time to simply be together. Laughter, shared stories, and quiet reflection wove through the weekend, creating space for renewal and deep connection.

This retreat wasn’t just renewing for the guests; it felt like a refresh for the retreat itself. With new elements, small surprises, and intentional moments for connection, the weekend reminded everyone why adult retreats at Camp Onomia are so special. Guests left inspired, recharged, and already looking forward to what’s next, knowing there will be even more ways to taste and see God’s goodness together in the months and years ahead.
