I call Camp Onomia my camp home.
My husband and I started going to Family Camp when our children were very young. Since then, in every season of my life - as a mom of teenagers, as an empty-nester, and now as a grandma, it’s been so significant to be part of this intergenerational family camp. I truly feel a sense of well-being and experience spiritual renewal at Camp Onomia.

The family camp experience begins with being welcomed to camp by the camp
counselors. The camp staff nurtures a welcoming and caring environment. At family camp, we meet new friends, and we also get to connect with friends we know because of previous family camp experiences. Campers of all ages gather at family camp to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and the camp experience. It is a joy to see all generations engaging in activities and conversations with each other. I think these experiences enrich every age group.

I value the camp community – the feeling of belonging, connection, trust, the caring, the sharing conversations. It is not unusual to engage in deep discussions about ourchallenges, our concerns, our hopes, and our faith. In addition to camp activities e.g. Bible studies, athletic field activities and other outdoor games, crafts, waterfront fun, and shared meals, I really enjoy the campfire programs.

I think attending the campfire in the fire circle is my favorite part of the day at family camp. I enjoy watching the fire’s flames, seeing the stone cross with Shakopee Lake in the background, watching skits to learn and think about how Jesus wants us to live, singing camp songs led by the counselors, and then seeing the sunset.

Family Camp is good for my soul.
