A Legacy of Faith, Community, and Outdoor Adventures!
Founded in 1949 as Lutheran Memorial Camp, Camp Onomia has spent over 75 years walking alongside children, youth, families, and adults as they connect with Christ through community and creation.

While we are affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Camp Onomia welcomes people of all faith backgrounds. We celebrate your questions, your faith journey, and your curiosity. We also honor and embrace people of all racial, economic, gender, sexual, and other important identities.

Our camp is led by a dedicated, professional year-round staff, and our summer programs are supported by a team of 12–15 carefully selected summer staff. All staff members complete annual background checks and participate in an extensive two-week training to ensure a safe, fun, and meaningful experience for every camper.

Character and Faith
Summer camp helps children grow in confidence as they learn to care for themselves, make choices, and navigate new situations. At Camp Onomia, campers practice independence in age-appropriate ways: whether it’s managing their daily schedule, choosing activities, or spending time away from home while supported by caring counselors and staff.
Camp experiences encourage children to stretch, try again, and learn that challenges are part of growth. At Onomia, campers are invited to try new activities, build friendships, and problem-solve together in a safe, supportive environment.
Camp allows children and youth to build friendships and feel a sense of belonging. Camp Onomia intentionally creates small-group communities where campers are known by name, build friendships across differences, and experience what it means to be part of a caring community.
Time outdoors supports physical health, emotional regulation, and creativity. Located on Shakopee Lake, Camp Onomia offers unplugged time in God’s creation, inviting campers to explore, play, reflect, and rest in ways that support overall well-being.
At its best, camp helps children grow not just in skills, but in who they are becoming. Rooted in our ELCA tradition, Camp Onomia nurtures values such as kindness, responsibility, and service, while welcoming questions and curiosity. Campers are invited to explore faith in ways that are meaningful, inclusive, and grounded in community.
