High School Programs: Site based and Adventure Trips
There is more to offer high school youth at Camp Onomia this summer!
With a wide variety of opportunities both on site and in trips away from here,
you may find just the niche you are looking for. These programs are all open to
individual registration, which means you or you and a friend can sign up on your
own or with your church group. Churches... we are able to plan, lead, and
schedule any of our servant and adventure trips just for your church group, so
contact us today without delay!
All programs are by grade completed by the spring of 2011. Unless noted,
sessions begin on Sunday at 3 PM and end the following Friday at 1PM
Parents, Camp Onomia summer staff spend two weeks in training before campers
arrive. We strive to provide a positive Christian role model in our staff who
will be a good friend, teacher, and mentor in faith. Whether you are staying at
camp or on the road somewhere, Camp Onomia staff will be there as guide, cook,
and leader to keep you safe and to make sure you have the best experience
possible.
We will begin and end each day centering on our Christian faith and will include
devotions and Bible based conversations which will connect you to important life
values.

Your high school years are the
best, and if you are able to spend a week at Onomia... it just gets
better!
Whether this is your tenth year at Camp or your first, it will be
like coming home. Do some crafts if you want to, grab some beach
time if you want to, join in playing eagles eggs one last time... if
you want to. Get the idea? Lots to do, the schedule is flexible, and
time just sitting around chatting with good friends is a priority.
As a senior high camper we also offer up some more challenging
adventures, like an extended Rum River canoe ramble, an awesome
camp-out in the pines, or an opportunity to stretch your comfort
level on a climbing wall. Plus, you help to lead chapel and
campfires all week long. It is your camp, your week, and your
homecoming! So plan on making it back home for a great week this
summer.
Your summer job will just have to wait. |

Do you want to step up to a dynamic
Christian Leadership training program?
As a Counselor in Training (CIT) at Camp Onomia, we give you some
hands-on experience in working with small groups, sharing your
faith, leading activities, and teaching songs. We will take you
deeper into how you understand your faith, what it means to be
Lutheran, and how live that love in God's world.
The CIT program is a two part session. The scheduled week is
instruction and training. We then invite you back to work along side
summer staff during another youth camp or Day Camp session later in
the summer. It is kind of like getting two weeks of Camp Onomia for
the price of one! Attending leadership camp equips you in many ways
to be a better leader in your church and school back home. It may
even get you excited about being a Camp Counselor someday at your
favorite camp.... that would be CampO. |

Are you a cyclist or just like riding your
bike? Here is the trip for you!
Cross Trek is a bike tour for high school youth and adults which
will cover between 30 and 60 miles per day. We travel bike trails and
back-roads through central Minnesota, supported by a van which hauls
your gear, water, and food. This tour is a small group experience,
traveling by bike by day and camping out in tents and on church
floors by night. Camp Onomia staff lead you safely to your next
destination, and the van is always behind you if you flat or need a
lift. Campers should have some biking experience and able to
physically ride the distance each day. Along the way you will enjoy
the scenery and tremendous friendships and camaraderie. What makes
this bike tour different is we also bring our Christian faith into
the conversation though daily devotions and evening Faith talks. So
invite your riding partner, get some prep miles in this spring, and
get your bike ready for a ride around Mille Lacs this summer!

Want to help make life a bit better for
someone?
That is our calling as Christians, and we offer a way to connect
with those in need while you connect with your faith and life
values. CampSERVE is a site based program. That means you stay in
the posh Retreat Center at Camp Onomia where we start and end the
day with the rest of the camp community. Then we are off to
destinations off- world (ok, off-site if you prefer) to build, fix,
paint, repair, cook, and simply help where help is needed to make a
difference in God's created world. Maybe it is a food shelf, perhaps
helping an invalid care for their home, maybe a trail in a state
park... we will have it all set up for you. Our staff will be along
to work along side with you and get you home again. What a great way
to feel good about making a difference in your world! |
