Member Congregations

Camp Onomia is a place of welcome for all people from all denominations. Congregations who choose to be a supporting member understand the need for Outdoor Ministries as an extension of the programs and Christian education happening in their own churches. They place a high priority on youth and family nurture. By banding together with other congregations, they also understand the tremendous resource that Camp provides the Church at large and the communities we all live in.

We are thankful to members of these congregations and their annual benevolence giving which supports and sustains Camp Onomia. Without these member congregations, Camp Onomia simply cannot exist.

Requirements for membership

Congregations may join the Association by a vote at their annual meeting. We require:

  • An annual financial pledge. Our target goal per congregation is $2.50 per baptized member. Some congregations are able to do more than this, some less. Camp depends upon these annual commitments to cover year-round staff and facility expenses.
  • Ongoing support for special projects and needs not covered by an annual budget. From time to time things break or need to be replaced. When these items cannot be funded through a planned budget, we will work with our member congregations and donors to cover the unexpected.
  • Participation in the programs and resources Onomia provides is just as important as annual funding. Promote our programs and send children, youth, and families to these awesome resources for your congregation.
  • Include Camp Onomia in your congregation's prayer life. We are partners in ministry.
  • You provide two voting delegates to our February Annual Meeting.
  • You provide two Advocates. These are individuals who we may contact and keep informed as to the programs and needs the camp has. They are the camp's voice in your congregation, an ambassador of Outdoor Ministries and the partnership which we cherish.

Benefits of membership

  • Discounted rates on nearly all of our programs including summer camp and retreat fees.
  • Ownership of land, facilities, and programs and a direct say in the direction of Camp Onomia.
  • The bigger picture... camp is a training ground for future leaders of our church. Studies indicate 75% of seminary graduates talk of a church camp experience being key in their discernment process.
  • Increased youth and adult participation in congregational life. A significant number of youth who remain active in congregational life after confirmation point to camp as a causal factor.
  • Member congregations make camp affordable to kids and families from many denominations, including the un-churched. Camp is an evangelical outreach opportunity for member congregations.
  • Professional staff resource: Full time program staff at Onomia have years of experience in youth and family ministry, all available to you.
  • It is just a good thing to do!
